The Doctor’s Back!
So by now, hopefully you’ve seen the Christmas special of Doctor Who. I mean perhaps you have, but you’ve gone back in time and have forgotten that you had seen it, and then came back to the future and skipped over watching it. Who knows, not me. Do you? But any who, after that timey-wimey mess, we can all agree that our favorite time traveler has come back after the fall break to deliver another good adventure.
I have to admit that I was more excited to see Michael Gambon in last’s Christmas Special, but this year’s “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe” was an excellent addition to the Whoniverse! This was a very special episode, at least to me. There is entertainment and then there is great entertainment. Some of you may follow where I’m going. But, you truly know when something is great when the time flies (or you time travel) and before you know it, the adventure is over. You’re having fun enjoying it. I sat at my desk with a cup of coffee [yes at 9PM!] and lounged back in my chair watching it.
I’ve experienced this time of entertainment only a few times before. First noticed it while listening to Blink-182′s “Enema of the State” album back in my teenage years. And then again when my good friend Lukas had introduced me to Doctor Who back in ’08 or ’09. He had built the hype better than the BBC does for new episodes. They should probably hire him to promote reruns. I’d enjoy that. But anyways, I had this suspense built up inside and it’s the type of scenario where everything has gone right. And I’m glad that this episode instantly sparked awesome jokes and great conversations that lead back to awesome jokes. Now seriously, please stop crying. I can’t continue this blog post if you’re crying.
The episode had a lot to offer and I honestly recommend watching it. I’m sure it’ll be on BBC/BBC America again at some point again. In addition, it’ll probably be on iTunes shortly. It had suspense, comedy, and an awesome story. If you’re like me and wanted to sneak a peak at some filming pictures or spoilers, they did not help create a proper image. It all fell in to place well.
I’m really glad that I enjoyed the episode, hopefully you do too. Now we have another long wait until he stops back from his travels. What did you honestly think of the episode, leave me a comment below!
I cried both times I watched it. The second time I was watching with my twelve year old and thought “Ha! You know what’s coming so you don’t have to look like a big ol’ baby in front of the boy – wait, why is my face wet?”
Humany Wumany Happy Tears.
I’ve been saying humany wumany a lot lately. A lot of weird looks have been sent my way, but I don’t care. It was really good. I was the right amount of happy/sad at the end. I didn’t shed a tear. I am at the point though, that if Matt were to leave with Karen and Arthur I might shed that tear like I did when David left.
Oh, for sure. I was skeptical at first (like most Whovians, I believe) about his ability to pull it off, but he’s totally become the Doctor for me. I know the exact moment I realized I could accept him, it was during Flesh and Stone.
River: There’s a plan?
Doctor: Don’t know yet, haven’t finished talking!
After that I had no further problems with him. I think after another year or so, he’ll have passed Tennant in my heart (I do still miss the Eccleston, though).
He actually had me on the hook during “The Eleventh Hour” with the whole fish fingers and custard. The hour before I was like, “Nope! Not gonna watch!” And then I sat down to watch. And chuckled. I was hooked, and it was a steady increase from there. Flesh and Stone was excellent. I really loved Vincent and the Doctor from that season. :D
I was stubborn. I watched (because I always watch with my two older boys), but I didn’t want to like him until then.
And, yes…Vincent and the Doctor is probably my favourite Smith episode to date. I have friends (and even my dad) that refuse to watch anything after Tennant left, but they have no idea what they’re missing. :)
That’s a bit sad. They really are missing out. But I suppose maybe when Matt does leave, they’ll bring someone else in and they’ll go back to watch his stuff and realize it’s awesome. :D
